Privacy Policy

mīsmo prides itself on not asking for personal details. Here's how we operate:

To host or join a session, you will be prompted to create a nickname.
Name, DOB, email, etc. are never requested.

What we collect

• Nicknames. When you play, you choose a nickname alias. Your nickname will be visible to other players in your session. In solo sessions, your nickname may also be visible to other solo players via mīsmo-match — unless you opt out in settings.
• Anonymous device ID. We assign a random identifier to your device to maintain your place in an active session.
• Game choices. Your in-game votes are processed to determine consensus. They are not logged or stored beyond the active session.
• Location. Some of our categories request your device location to surface nearby options (e.g. dining) - but this is entirely optional and not required to play mīsmo. You can manually enter any location of your choice and play without giving mīsmo Location Services permission. If you choose to share your location, either manually or via Location Services, it's only used within the session and never stored on our servers.
• Country. For mīsmo-match, we derive an approximate country from your device's locale setting (not GPS) and store it temporarily with your session. If you get a mīsmo-match your approximate country may be visible as a flag icon to others you matched with. You can opt out of mīsmo-match at any time in settings.

What we don't collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying information. We do not track you across apps or websites. We do not run advertising. We do not sell data.

Third-party services

• Firebase (Google). We use Google Firebase Firestore to temporarily hold session data while a game is active.
• The Movie Database (TMDB). Movie and TV content is sourced via the TMDB API.
• Google Places. Restaurant and local venue options are sourced via the Google Places API.
• Deezer. Music content is sourced via the Deezer API.
• Google Books. Book options for the BOOKS category are sourced via the Google Books API.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy. We share only the minimum data needed to fetch results.

Data retention

Session data is retained temporarily. In solo sessions, data including your nickname and approximate country may be kept for a temporary period after your session ends to power mīsmo-match. Nicknames are anonymous aliases — no name, email, or identifying information is ever requested or collected. There are no persistent user accounts.

Children

mīsmo doesn't collect personal information from anyone - children included.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be at this URL.
